What Is the Difference Between V Mast, SV Mast, FV Mast, and FSV Mast?

One of the most important points to consider when selecting a forklift is the type of mast.

In forklift specifications and stock listings, you will often see:

  • V Mast
  • SV Mast
  • FV Mast
  • FSV Mast

If you do not clearly understand the differences between these mast types, you may end up choosing a forklift that does not match your working environment.

In this article, we will explain the differences between each mast type in a simple and easy-to-understand way.

■ V Mast (2-Stage Mast)

The V Mast is a 2-stage mast structure.

When the forks are raised, the inner mast extends at the same time.

Features

  • Simple structure
  • Relatively lower cost
  • Suitable for general warehouse operations

Important Note

Since the overall mast height increases when lifting the forks,
it may not be suitable for low-ceiling warehouses or container operations.

■ SV Mast

The SV Mast structure is generally similar to the V Mast.

The key difference is that the forks rise before the inner mast extends.

However, SV Mast models are not very common in overseas markets.
In most cases, customers choose either a standard V Mast or a full free mast type.

■ FV Mast (2-Stage Full Free Mast)

The FV Mast is a 2-stage full free mast.

The forks can rise without increasing the overall mast height until reaching the outer mast height.

Features

  • Full free lift function
  • Suitable for lifting heights of approximately 3m to 4m
  • Ideal for container work

Structurally, it is similar to an FSV mast.
However, it does not support very high lifting operations.

■ FSV Mast (3-Stage Full Free Mast)

The FSV Mast is a 3-stage full free mast.

Features

  • Full free lift (forks rise without increasing mast height initially)
  • Capable of high lifting operations (4m or more depending on the model)
  • Ideal for container operations
  • Highly demanded for export markets

For high-level storage, logistics warehouses, and international export,
this is one of the most popular mast specifications.

Why Mast Type Matters

When choosing a forklift, it is not only the year or capacity that matters.
The mast specification significantly affects work efficiency and safety.

Before purchasing, make sure to check:

  • Maximum lifting height
  • Whether container operations are required
  • Warehouse ceiling height
  • Rack storage height

Selecting the correct mast type ensures safer and more efficient operations.
